Enapay | Native American for “Brave”; This Gelding Lives Up to His Name

Enapay, a 2007 Show a Heart gelding had four starts for one win and two seconds in Victoria under trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Junior before retiring in June 2011.

Event rider Cindy Lyall had been looking for Show a Heart progeny after the success of Joello (GI Joe) who was by the group one winning stallion. Cindy saw Enapay advertised and in June 2012 he was trucked across to Western Australia to begin his eventing career.

“He was one of the easiest off the track horses I have brought along.” Cindy said.

Enapay, who competes under the name GI Show N Tell, and is affectionately known around the stables as Elmo or Mr Mo was competed through to EvA 80 by Cindy. In Late 2013, Cindy sold Elmo to good friend Jaime Hall.

Elmo was then 13-year-old Jaime’s first off the track thoroughbred. Over the next six years Elmo and Jaime built a special relationship and had many competition successes; reaching 1* level together. In 2016 they won the long format Junior 105 (now 1*) at the Wooroloo Three Day Event and were the overall winners of the EWA Junior 105 Master Series Leaderboard. The pair were ready to move up in height when Jaime moved to England for two seasons.

In late 2019 Jaime felt Elmo had given her all he could, and it was time for him look after a new rider at lower heights. At the time that Elmo was advertised Jessica Blackwell wasn’t in the market for a new horse; she was just starting her green home-bred horse and hadn’t evented for over 10 years. Elmo’s reputation as a jumping machine convinced Jessica that he would be the perfect horse to help her get back into the swing of things.

“She (Jessica) is the most perfect home for him. He will always hold a very special place in my heart, and it brings me so much joy watching him and Jess compete together.” Jaime says.

Jessica, who runs an equine therapeutic and education service has been well placed to look after Elmo on the ground while he looks after her in the saddle. The gelding has sacroiliac joint arthritis, kissing spins, coffin joint changes and neck arthritis. All of this is managed diligently by Jessica through his fitness regime, body work and diet, resulting in a happy and healthy horse.

In 2020 Elmo and Jessica have been successfully eventing up to 80cm. The pair placed third at the EvA 80 OTT class at Gidgegannup CCN, sixth in the P/ARC 80 class at Brigadoon 2 CCN and won the 80cm class at the Avon Valley Adult Riders Hunter Trials. This has all been achieved after a floating accident resulting in a severe hoof injury earlier this year almost ended his ridden career.

Jessica says Elmo is a favourite of her students, known for his affectionate nature and propensity for giving sloppy kisses. At competitions Elmo is recognised for his unique jumping style, which can only be described as a Superman impersonation. Elmo has a soft spot for a long spot, often taking off two strides too early.

“He’s a machine cross country, if he was to refuse a jump, I’d get off straight away and walk home because something would be wrong!” Jessica says.

An expressive horse, he is often mistaken for being tense in his dressage test because he purses his lips in what looks like a grimace.

Jessica is quite happy to continue enjoying competing Elmo in the 80cm eventing circuit for as long as he’s comfortable and happy. When he is ready to take it down a gear again, he will live out his days trail riding and hanging out on the hill with his harem of mares.
