Sense of Self | Small but Mighty Little Mare
Sense of Self is a 2016 Thoroughbred mare by the stallion, Smug. Beginning her race training with Misty Bazeley, Sense of Self never raced or trialed and instead retired from racing before ever hitting the racetrack.
Known around the stables as ‘Minty’, Sense of Self was purchased from Kelly Whitelock in 2021 by Hannah Steinhoff. Hannah purchased Minty after searching for a project horse to move up the jumping heights with and use for a bit of everything.
Minty and Hannah slowly developed their partnership, gaining trust and a bond as they learnt together. Minty loves trail riding and cross country and is described as having a sweet but cheeky nature.
“She is really quick to learn once she has the concept,” commented Hannah.
In 2023, Minty and Hannah placed second in the PCWA Leaderboard for 65cm Jumping as well as winning the Highpoint Championship in the 80cm Grand Prix at Albany Horseworld Grand Prix. Hannah hopes to move up the levels to compete in 80cm eventing classes in 2024, with future goals to reach 95cm classes in jumping. Minty is a small horse at only 15hh but has a promising future ahead of her.
OTTWA wish Minty and Hannah all the best their future ahead of them.
