OTTWA Retraining and Rehoming Program | Checking in on Sid and Blake

Off the Track WA enjoy keeping up to date with rehomed horses through the OTTWA Retraining and Rehoming Program. Recently, we reached out to Blake Acacio who rehomed standardbred gelding, Sir Sid, in May.

Having previously rehomed ‘Aint Misbehavin NZ’ (Kobe) from the OTTWA Retraining and Rehoming Program in 2021, Blake was well acquainted with the process.

“Never have I been given so much previous history on a horse when purchasing,” commented Blake when asked how he felt the rehoming process had gone for him.

Retrained by the team at Oakford Equestrian and Lokenzo Park, Sir Sid was first introduced to Blake in early March. Having worked with Nora Eranpalo from Oakford previously, Nora suggested that Blake and Sid may be a suitable match.

“Our first ride was the most fun I’ve had riding in a very long time; I was able to take him out to the cross-country course to go over little logs and walk around,” fondly recalls Blake.

While Sid was not without his quirks, Blake was thoroughly pleased with his first impression of the handsome bay gelding and was eager to continue with the rehoming process. Blake also attributed his confidence in purchasing Sid to the honest insight and background provided by the OTTWA Retrainers.

Having owned Sid now for a few months, the pair are now well acquainted with each other and have formed a strong connection. Blake is dedicated to consolidating Sid’s training, aiming for their first competition start in August. They continue to thoroughly enjoy their jumping, with Sid proving to have a super jump and spring in his step. They are also establishing their flatwork, with leg yields, shoulder-ins, walk pirouettes and focus upon strengthening Sid’s canter. We are thrilled and eager to continue to follow along with Blake and Sid as they learn and develop together.

“I could not recommend rehoming a horse through OTTWA enough,” said Blake. “The retrainers are honest and super encouraging. They know the horses inside and out.”
