UNNAMED – AUSSIE | A SENSATIONAL STANDARDBRED

Unnamed in the Harness register, Aussie was born in November of 2009. By Yankee Sensation USA, and out of Nancy Wake NZ, Aussie was bred for a career in racing; despite this, Aussie never raced.

In 2020, Tracey Barnett was looking to get back into the saddle and was in search of a solid all-rounder. Aussie was at this point in the care of Sally Evans, who had trained the gelding into a wonderful all-round mount; Aussie had even participated in the Light Horse Troop. Upon meeting Aussie, it was clear Tracey had found her perfect horse.

“Aussie is very willing to please his rider, which made it easy for me to attempt any discipline on him as I gained confidence and wanted to try more things. He’s been the ultimate partner,” Tracey said.

Aussie is described as having a wonderful work ethic, with a trainable and sensible brain. Despite this, Aussie was at first a little closed off and shy. Since getting to know Tracey, he has come out of his shell and has been known to be somewhat of a ‘diva’.

“He is very opinionated about what he likes and wants,” commented Tracey. “Whilst he will handle any situation, he is a sensitive soul and loves his routine.”

Together, Tracey and Aussie have participated in a bit of everything. Having never thought she’d be brave enough to jump, Aussie has proved Tracey wrong and has competed in both jumping and eventing competitions.

“I felt I could trust him to keep us safe.”

Throughout the years, Aussie and Tracey have had some exciting accomplishments together. Aussie loves cross country and competed in several eventing competitions in 2022. At both Swan River Horse Trials and Capel ODE, Aussie received the best performed OTT award for his heights and has placed in four of his five eventing starts!

“I am so immensely proud of my super little Standy. The horse that was just meant to get me back in the saddle, trail riding and maybe some adult riders, took me out competing in eventing, dressage and my first ever show jumping competition. He’s amazing!”

Aussie’s life has since slowed down from his competitive years to keep up with his body, but still enjoys regular rides and fun with Tracey. Tracey hopes to continue to keep Aussie happy and strong for as long as possible.
