Astralander | Jupiter Takes Off
Bred by Yarradale Stud in 2015, this War Chant gelding began his race career in 2018 under trainer, Frank Maynard. After trialing with Maynard, Astralander spelled before his first official start in 2019 with trainer, Rod Brown. Racing on country tracks in Kalgoorlie and Esperance, Astralander raced for a total of eleven starts before retiring in 2021 with no placings and $6,238 in lifetime earnings.
Purchased from Tracey Brooks in 2022, Mia Holberton and ‘Jupiter’ started their journey together as a young off the track horse and rider combination. Going back to basics, Mia and Jupiter worked hard to establish themselves as a strong pairing, learning together as they go.
“I fell in love with his character and instantly felt a connection with him,” said Mia.
Mia and Jupiter enjoy participating in a variety of disciplines, such as eventing, dressage and show jumping; as well as attending local pony club events and travelling far and wide to compete. Mia has brought Jupiter along from a green horse with no competition experience, to tackling their first 65cm eventing rounds and competing regularly. They have established a partnership of trust, with Mia describing Jupiter as her ‘best friend in horse form’.
Mia commented that, “He is always willing to please and tries everything I ask him to do.” While her mother, Jacquie suggested that, “Astralander has been the best part of Mia’s life, and has truly touched all of our hearts.”
Together, Mia hopes to continue to work on their dressage and give Jupiter more confidence. Overall, they aim to be competing at Pony Club C Grade by the end of the year.
OTTWA wish Astralander and Mia all the best for their future together and are thrilled to highlight yet another horse so beloved by their off the track family.
