Checking in with the OTTWA Retraining Program

We checked in with our OTTWA Retrainers to see how their horses are developing in their off the track re-training. Here are some of the comments we received regarding two of our beautiful horses available for rehoming:

“Yes Miss Jane has been super all week. Janey has become a little delight to ride. She has improved loads and is getting softer in the contact to carry herself nicely for longer periods. She has begun lateral work and leg yielding, and this is helping to loosen her body. She also enjoys jumping and pole work, not spooky and easily ridden around the property. She is a cool little horse and would suit any discipline as she is very trainable and wants to please. Janey has come a long way since the start. Now working more relaxed in an open frame and happier to move more elastically.”

Since beginning her off the track retraining, Janey has transitioned from a sharp little mare to a soft, enjoyable ride. She is has a bright future of ahead of her with whatever discipline her new owners choose to take her into. Our OTTWA Retrainers think she’ll make a super allrounder mount as she enjoys jumping, but has the looks and paces to excel in both dressage and show horse.

“Athabascan is mostly trotting, will still pace when unbalanced. Snorts at everything but we think this is just his way of communicating. Nothing nasty or naughty in him. Will need an experienced rider willing to support him but is great on the ground and super easy to handle. Great so far on trail rides with other horses; will go out on his own no problems, will just snort at everything. Enjoys riding out regardless. Would make a great endurance horse with time and patience.”

Romeo has taken a bit to relax into his new ridden career, but is progressing with support from his trainers. He’s a funny chap, who enjoys snorting at just about everything. Our OTTWA Retrainers think Romeo would be best suited to a quiet trail riding home, or someone who would like to try out endurance. He is needs some emotional support under saddle, but is a pleasure on the ground.
