Double Happy NZ | A Very Versatile Man.
Double Happy NZ is a 2007 gelding by popular stallion Bettors Delight USA. This New Zealand import was trained by John Tormey in the eastern states between 2011 and mid-2014. In August 2014, Double Happy NZ moved to Western Australia and had one trial and start with Brayden Green, before moving to the stables of Trainer/Drive Justine Prentice for his final two races. Throughout his career, Double Happy won nine out of his 59 starts, earning connections a lifetime stakes total of $50,664. He was retired in late 2014.
In 2020, Jamie-Lee Hughes was offered the ownership of Double Happy (Harvey) by a friend. He had been used as a trail riding mount since his retirement and was just returning from a year-long spell. Jamie sent Harvey away to be educated by an independent retrainer and he returned ready to commence his riding career.
Together, Harvey and Jamie-Lee have been working on establishing a more balanced canter as well as learning to jump. Harvey has shown keen interest in jumping and has a relaxed attitude toward trail riding. Jamie-Lee and Harvey thoroughly enjoy their time together, wandering along trails as well as riding along the beach, attending adult riders and exploring other disciplines. Jamie-Lee has introduced Harvey to a multitude of unique experiences including working equitation and ranch sorting, and they are quickly forming a strong bond which allows them to tackle their new adventures with confidence.
In 2023, Harvey and Jamie-Lee have lots of competitions planned. They will be out riding across a vast array of disciplines including show jumping, adult riders and barrel racing. They also plan to attend Off the Track WA clinics to further develop their canter. We look forward to seeing them out and about across the year!
