Howdy Dazz | Confident and Trainable Simba

Howdy Dazz NZ, a 2011 Pacer by Falcon Seelster, began his racing career in 2014. Trained by Peter Tilbrook, Howdy Dazz NZ paced for a total of 19 starts, winning two and placing in four others. Howdy Dazz retired from racing in 2017 with $12,070 in lifetime earnings. Following retirement, Howdy Dazz was rehomed to Nesrin Ali.

While in training with Peter, Howdy Dazz was occasionally ridden out in the paddock and was often used to help train the younger horses. This helped with his transition into an off the track mount as he had already been backed and had some ridden experience. Nesrin admits that she was not initially looking for a horse, but after meeting Simba, she could not look past his super temperament and character.

“Simba is honestly one of a kind. He is my best mate and everyone who meets him loves him,” commented Nesrin. When asked to describe how Simba was to retrain, Nesrin recalled that he came to her unaware of how to lunge, didn’t know how to canter, and could only be ridden in straight lines. Despite this, Simba is described as ‘extremely confident’ and willing to give anything a crack.

“Simba is extremely trainable. He grasps concepts pretty quick and is so willing to achieve it to the best of his ability.”

Nesrin attributes a lot of her own personal growth to Simba and his ability to remain in tune with her emotions. She comments that he has, “taught me a lot about myself and life”. Nesrin suggested that their greatest accomplishment together has simply been becoming a team.

“This little horse came into my life and changed it for the better.”

“To be able to give him the life he deserves if my biggest accomplishment.”

Nesrin hopes to take Simba to his first show soon, gaining the courage to venture out of both of their comfort zones. Having ventured out on several non-competitive outings, Nesrin believes that Simba and her are more than ready.

OTTWA wish Simba and Nesrin all the best with their future together and wish them luck for their first competition.
