Keshaar | Kate and Bert Building A Partnership
Keshaar, a 2006 Xaar gelding bred by Oakland Park Stud in Western Australia, started his race career in late 2008. Trained and owned by the Herbert family, Keshaar raced for eight years across 44 starts, claiming six wins and five placings. Across his career, ‘Bert’ retired from racing in 2016 with lifetime earnings of $292,300. Bert then transitioned into his new off the track career.
In 2020, Bert was purchased from Josephine Mfune by Kate Abbott. Having established himself as an experienced off the track mount, Bert was exactly what Kate was after; a horse that had been there, and done that. Bert was competing in novice dressage and at 80cm with Josephine; the perfect resume for someone seeking a horse with experience.
With intentions to venture into eventing, Bert and Kate set about building trust and developing their partnership. Kate and Keshaar have established a strong understanding of one another since they have worked together. They recently competed at Oakford Jump Cross, which was Kate’s first time out on the cross country field, and came home to claim the win.
Bert is described as a ‘cool dude’, who is both calm, patient and very honest in nature. He tries his best and will give everything a go. Kate and Bert enjoy frequent beach trips and trail rides, using the opportunity to further solidify their partnership. Kate hopes to venture further into eventing in the future, and is actively focused on improving their jumping. In 2024, Kate and Bert attended several clinics throughout the year which have helped them to improve towards their goal.
Off the Track WA look forward to seeing Kate and Bert out eventing and jumping in the future, and wish them all the best.
