League of Nations | Quirky Leroy and Taylah Overcoming Hurdles

League of Nations is a Medaglia D’oro gelding bred by Robrick Lodge Thoroughbreds in 2014. League of Nations (Leroy) began his race career in late 2016, and went on to race in 17 starts for a total of eight placings and one win, earning fifty thousand on the track before retiring in 2019.

Leroy was rehomed to Taylah Hurren in 2020 by Natasha Barbarich, who was attracted to his playful personality and flashy appearance. Taylah and Leroy developed a partnership built upon the foundations of respect and trust, which became vital for the pair to overcome their struggles.

In 2024, Leroy sustained a torn ligament, forcing him to endure eight weeks of box rest with frequent hand walking. Thanks to his close bond with Taylah, and hard work from the Murdoch Vet team, Leroy made a full recovery.

Unfortunately, the hurdles did not stop there, with Leroy soon diagnosed with a keratoma in his hoof. Following surgery to remove the keratoma, and a further eight weeks of box rest, Leroy has since made another full recovery and is set to restart his ridden career in 2025.

Taylah describes Leroy as a quirky individual with a gentle demeanor. He is the first to greet you at the gate and loves nothing more than attention. He is a beloved horse who, despite several setbacks in his off the track journey, continues to be adored by the people around him.

“His eagerness to please and adaptability make him a natural at learning new skills. He’s been a joy to work with in his retraining process,” said Taylah, who aims to reboot Leroy’s ridden career with dressage as his chosen discipline. The pair have been working hard towards this goal.

Off the Track WA look forward to following along with their journey and wish Leroy and Taylah all the best for the year ahead of them.
