Outstanding Results at the 2025 WAYER International Horse Trials

The 2025 WAYER International Horse Trials saw a record number of retired racehorses, with 147 Thoroughbreds competing across two days of intense competition. The Off the Track (OTT) horses showcased impressive athleticism, talent, and trainability, with many earning top placements.

The event featured three OTTWA-sponsored classes, offering significant opportunities for retired racehorses in performance homes. Whether as competitors, sponsors, or spectators, the talent on display was undeniable.

The OTT65cm class had 31 starters, with 24 finishers. Top results were:

  1. Call Again and Kariss Whitfield
  2. Valore Militare and Benita Cadd
  3. Shintashi and Dani Carey
  4. Liber Archie and Holly McClune
  5. Rich Memories and Elizabeth Hearne
  6. Captain Bligh and Amelia Radford

Call Again marked his first win in eventing, marking the start of an exciting future for this gelding. Liber Archie, an OTTWA Retraining and Rehoming program graduate, earned a strong fourth-place finish in his second eventing start. Dani Carey also placed ninth with Olyrue.

The OTT80cm class had 26 starters, and the top results were:

  1. Carradine and Laurelle Hayes
  2. Surrender Talks and Jaime Baker
  3. Brave Battle and Makayla Wood
  4. Desert Gold and Laurelle Hayes
  5. Scurgey Boy and Jade Donald
  6. Alezan and Eloise Trolove

This was a tricky class, with many riders experiencing difficulty out on course. Laurelle Hayes had a successful weekend, with two horses in the top five. Carradine, owned by Marissa Marriot, and Surrender Talks both had strong performances despite these tough conditions.

The OTT95cm class featured 16 starters, with 14 finishers. Top results were:

  1. Mauldens Mill and Amber Patupis-Retsas
  2. Chillie Storm and Hayley Chisholm
  3. Fanicio and Amelia Radford
  4. Houndstooth and Ruby Rae
  5. Born Regal and Jade Donald
  6. Maccacino and Amberlee Brown

Mauldens Mill took first place after Kintail’s elimination, with a double-clear cross-country round and a clear show jumping round. The CCN classes were very impressive, many of the top three horses of each class being off the track.

In the FEI classes, several off-the-track horses earned top honors. Restore Order & Riley Lyall won the CCN1*, Ocean’s Fifteen & Charlee Morton-Sharp won the CCI2*-S, and Super Maxi & Charlee Morton-Sharp placed third in the CCI3*-S. SunSupernatural & Sarah Dawson secured second in the CCI4*-S, continuing their strong partnership.

We look forward to sponsoring more events for retired racehorses in 2025. If you competed at the WAYER International Horse Trials with an OTT horse, share your results with us!
