Plenti Upfront | Edna Mode Activated
Plenti Upfront is a 2012 Standardbred mare by the stallion, Orleans. Bred by Adrian Bell and trained by Steve Burton, Plenti Upfront began her pacing career in late 2014 and started in two races in 2015. After several trials and two starts, Plenti Upfront retired from pacing with $278 to her name. Following retirement, Plenti Upfront was rehomed and used as a pleasure bush hack by Beryl Ettas for several years before being rehomed once again to young rider, Matilda King.
With Matilda, “Edna” has transitioned into a jumper, eventer, dressage, and pony club competitor. While Matilda was seeking her first horse, she stumbled upon Edna posted on Gumtree and immediately fell in love upon meeting her. Purchasing Plenti Upfront in 2021, Edna and Matilda have worked hard together to develop a partnership and learn the ropes as a team. Now, Edna competes in several disciplines, with a strong work ethic and willingness to please.
“Edna is constantly wanting to do more in rides and is very energetic to say the least.”
Together, Edna and Matilda recently competed at the EWA Interschool State Championships, competing in the combined training and show jumping. Matilda fondly expressed that this competition was their greatest accomplishment so far as a team.
“She just excelled and placed in every class she entered!”
Matilda hopes to continue to progress onwards with Edna, getting into a consistent workflow to see where they end up. The pair would love to move up in their jumping rounds and continue to develop their confidence. Matilda hopes to produce Plenti Upfront into a confident jumping mare, representing Standardbreds in jumping.
It is great to see another Standardbred joining the jumping scene competitively. Plenti Upfront joins “Ginger” as one of the very few competitive Standardbred mares in jumping/eventing disciplines. OTTWA hope to see many more follow in their footsteps!
