Swipe It | Nigel Dabbles in a bit of Everything!

Born in 2016, Swipe It is a gelding by Irish stallion, Dick Turpin. Starting his race career in 2019 with Adam Durrant, Swipe It had a fleeting racing career, spanning across two years of minimal starts. Trained by Durrant, Catherine Godden, and Teagan Madex throughout his career, Swipe It retired from racing in mid-2021. After ten starts for no wins and placings, Swipe It was rehomed to Matilda Steinhoff.

Purchased with the intention to be Matilda’s next project horse, ‘Nigel’ entered into his new off the track career with ease.

“Nigel is so cruisey. He will do anything to please me once he understands what I am asking,” fondly said Matilda.

Retrained by Matilda, Nigel has been exposed to an array of new experiences in his off the track life, including working with cows, competing in marathons, games, show jumping, eventing, and dressage. Matilda describes Nigel as the best horse to have around as he is happy to do anything asked of him. In 2023, Nigel and Matilda competed in the Blackwood Marathon where they placed in fifth place. In 2024, they competed at Capel CCN in the OTT EV65 class to again place in fifth place. Matilda hopes to move Nigel up into 80cm classes later in the year.

When asked what their long-term goals were, Matilda commented that she hopes to, “further our endurance rides and hopefully move up to 95cm eventing in 2025.”

OTTWA wish Nigel and Matilda all the best for their year ahead of them and wish them luck as they progress through the grades.
