Take the Punt | Three-Star Scope and Hope for Garry
Take the Punt by Cardinal Virtue was born in Western Australia in 2012. This gelding began his race career with breeder, Liz Strempel in 2015 for several trials and starts, before moving briefly into the stable of Peter Fernie. After a handful of starts with Fernie, Take the Punt moved into the care of Rebecca Shanks, securing a win and a second placing before retiring in August of 2019. Take the Punt retired after a total of 21 starts with one win and two seconds for $19,700.
After retiring, Take the Punt was rehomed straight off the track to Tahnee Wegner, who was seeking a horse to produce for herself.
“I just love Thoroughbreds; They are so versatile and athletic” said Tahnee.
Tahnee commented that Garry took to his off the track training like a ‘duck to water’, with natural ability to jump and a love for flatwork. Tahnee finds these traits to be extremely beneficial for their future endeavors. With Garry’s sweet, cheeky, and willing nature, Tahnee believes that Garry has incredible ability.
Together with Tahnee, Take the Punt (or Garry), competes in a multitude of disciplines such as eventing, show jumping, western and pleasure riding. Utilizing the versatility of thoroughbreds, Garry has proven to jump with significant scope, managing to clear 1.30m at home with plenty of room to spare. Tahnee hopes to use this scope to later compete at three-star level eventing, a future long-term goal of the pair.
OTTWA wish Take the Punt and Tahnee all the best for their future together.
